the UK Dining Guide
Just found your web site re: places to dine from searching on info about the sidings in York. Very helpful - thanks. Then looked at your review of Cornwall, you should check out the old lifeboat station at Coverack. The food is superb and in a very different setting. I am informed that Sebastion Coe is known to frequent ! The restaurant in question is a Chip Shop ! during the day and doesn't look appealing through the window. I was there with two friends and we were stopping in Coverack for one night. We took one look at the Old Lifeboat Station and decided we would eat in the adjacent pub ! When we got to the pub in the evening their menu was dreadful so we decided that the only option left was fish & chips from the chippy. When we got into the chippy we found that for some reason it was hugely popular for a tiny village and because of the queue, ventured through to the Restaurant area, to be met with a room packed with people and an owner asking if we'd booked. We were then told that as we hadn't, we would be looking at a three hour wait ! We must have looked very depressed and pleaded that we were desperately hungry. When the lady we were speaking to realised we were from the Midlands and said 'Ill try and squeeze you in somewhere as me and my husband are from Bromsgrove and we miss the Midlanders'. We spotted the adjacent table loaded with locally caught fresh fish and shellfish and our mouths started to water. She and her husband, the chef, joined us for a glass of wine at one point and the meal was absolutely stunning. It was a most unexpected find and we later found out that it has quite a reputation in the area and beyond. We weren't surprised.
