I
would like to recommend South Restaurant,
128 Curtain Rd, London EC2A
3AQ, tel 020 7729 4452.
South is a light and airy restaurant serving simple southern French food. The
menu changes fairly frequently whilst keeping some seasonal favourites.
We
splashed out and had the pan
fried foie gras with puy lentils and
Jurancon sauce, a good choice.
It was the best foie gras I have
ever eaten.
Our
other starter was a pear,
walnut and roquefort salad with
a light creamy dressing, which
was also delicious. I followed
this with pan fried Scallops with
crushed charlottes potatoes and
a coriander seed butter - yum-
succulent scallops and the sauce
was lovely.
My
husband had the Confit de
Canard, a perfectly confited
duck leg with creamy mashed potato
and a dark dark red beetroot
sauce, also fantastic. We were
quite full but were very tempted
by the selection of desserts
displayed on the bar, however
we
plumped for some homemade ice
cream instead which was also
very good.
The
wine list is very regional we
had a bottle of red Pic Saint
Loup as recommended by our waitress
which went very well with our
menu choices and was reasonably
priced. The kitchen is open plan
so you can watch the chefs working
away. The service was excellent,
informed and friendly, and added
to our evening being so lovely.
I would highly recommend South
as a great place to go for decent
portions of high quality food
and wine.
Thank you
