TV chef Tony Tobin takes over at The Dining Room 

If you you're already a fan of Tobin's you may be wondering what all this is about. Surely, Tobin is already the Head Chef at The Dining Room, the destination restaurant in Reigate, not far from Gatwick International Airport?  Well, yes, but the restaurant was owned by someone else. Now Tobin, who was a former head chef to Nico Ladenis, and who has risen to fame  through appearances on Ready, Steady, Cook and the Carlton Food Channel - is to re-launch the restaurant as chef-patron under his own name.

The redesigned restaurant is now called
Tony Tobin @ The Dining Room and it will offer modern British food, enhanced with the addition of  subtle flavours from across the world.  The wine list will feature a range from around the world, with plenty of New World influence, including a special reserve list compiled mainly of fine French and Italian wines.  The service style will be personal and attentive.

Tony Tobin @ The Dining Room' has been made possible thanks to the backing of Peter Wood - the insurance legend who rose to fame in the 1990s after founding Direct Line. Peter Wood discovered  Tobin's cooking by chance in 2001 and enjoyed it enough to help fund this joint venture a year later.

Tony Tobin told Dine Online: "The menu will use British food as the building blocks for dishes which will be given a more exciting edge with hints of flavours usually found in continental dishes.

" We intend to offer people all the benefits of a top London restaurant -  excellent food and quality service - in a wonderful environment that is free of  the pressures of the capital." But let the menus speak for themselves...

Starters

Salad of black pudding, shredded apple & watercress.
Courgette flowers stuffed with preserved black beans, tiger prawns & spring onion.
Warm Spanish tortilla, guacamole, mustard leaf salad.
Yellowfin tuna sushi, pickled ginger, wasabi mayonnaise.
Jellied ham hock terrine, celeriac remouli
Mediterranean fish soup, garlic croutons and Aioli.

Mains

Crispy aromatic duck, pineapple chutney, mustard mash.
Chicken breast stuffed with chicken livers, parma ham, 
chick peas with pickled red cabbage.
Tagine of lamb and apricots, cracked wheat, lemon & mint chermoulah.
Lemon peppered salmon, roasted fennel, dill mayonnaise.
Seared parrotfish, miso & seaweed broth.
Char-grilled rib-eye, fried baby potatoes, mustard & horseradish dressing.

Desserts  £6.50

Bramley apple doughnuts, cinnamon ice cream.
Dark chocolate & date terrine, vanilla short bread biscuits.
Rhubarb & ginger crumble, passion fruit ice cream.
Mango & kaffir lime parfait, sesame brittle.
Cherry bakewell tart, warm cherry compote, softly whipped cream.
Pecan pie with peanut butter ice cream.
Selection of fine cheese.

Szechuan peppered foie gras, spiced plum chutney, saffron brioche.
Seared scallops, Thai spiced crab cake, chilli drizzle.
Goats cheese terrine, pickled baby peppers, sage & walnut pesto.
Crab, straw mushroom, scallion spring rolls, galangal syrup.
Seared kangaroo salad, crushed peanuts, crispy garlic & shallots.
Chick pea falafel, fenugreek salad, tahini dressing.

Char-grilled beef fillet, crushed Jerusalem artichokes, morel & truffle froth.
Moroccan spiced loin of lamb, sweet potato fondant, preserved orange cous cous.
Wild peppered, duck breast, gooseberry relish, sweet pepper purée.
Roasted seabass, sticky coconut rice, curried aubergine purée.
Steamed turbot, pickled carrots, coriander papardelle.
Monkfish "osso bucco" with choi sum, caviar butter.
